DIY Remedies To Get Rid Of Blackheads (Quarantine Special)

The ongoing lockdown has given us an opportunity to stay natural and makeup-free for god knows till when! On one hand, this is a chance to revitalize our skin by avoiding the number of chemical-based products we use normally, but on the other hand with the comfort of lying in our PJs and nowhere to go, skincare has taken a backseat (especially for lazy slobs like me).

It’s time that we accept the fact that the coronavirus is here to stay for at least a few more months and even if the lockdown restrictions are relaxed a bit going to a salon and letting someone else touch your face is probably a bad idea.

DIYs and home remedies are definitely the best way to keep your skin healthy and stay corona-free during these crazy times.

Blackheads are one of the most common skin problems that women face. Since you can’t get a facial or clean-up done by your “parlor wali didi”, it’s time to take things in your hands!

Blackheads are basically clogged pores. These clogs are made up of dead skin cells and excess oil from your skin. While whiteheads are clogs in a closed pore, blackheads are clogs in an open pore (exposure to air turns the clog to a black color).

Here are some easy ways to reduce blackheads:

1. Honey and Cinnamon

Mix ½ tsp cinnamon and 1 tbsp honey. Apply it to your T-zone and chin for 20 minutes and then wash it with warm water. Apply 2-3 times a week.

2. Egg White and Lemon

Separate an egg white from 1 egg and whip it till it is white and frothy. Then add 1/2 tsp of fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of raw honey in it. Apply it on your face and leave it to dry completely. Peel off the mask for removing blackheads.

3. Gelatin Milk Peel Off Mask

Take 2 – 3 tbsp of milk in 1 tbsp of gelatin. Pour hot milk into the gelatin and stir well. Let it cool down for a few seconds and apply the warm mix on the face carefully. Allow it to dry for about 15 – 20 minutes and peel off the mask in the upward direction. Wash and moisturize your face.

4. Charcoal

Mix 2 tsp of activated charcoal and 1/2 tsp of bentonite clay in 1 ½ teaspoon of water. Stir well and apply it on the face. Leave it to dry and then peel off the mask.

5. Bentonite Clay Mask

Mix 2-3 tbsp of bentonite clay with water to make a paste and apply it to your face. Let it dry and wash it off.

Always make sure that you moisturize your face after washing even if you have oily skin. All the remedies that I have suggested need to be tried 2-3 times a week to see improvement in your skin. Since the remedies are natural they are mild and are not going to be as effective as any chemical-based commercial product but then on the upside, they are cheap and have no long-term harmful effects.

If you own a blackhead remover stick, I would suggest you use one of the above remedies, wash and moisturize your face, and then gently use the stick to remove any blackheads still visible.
