How To Get Rid Of Dark Circles Naturally

Dark circles under your eye make you look old, tired, and unhealthy. Although there is no serious problem linked to dark circles, still no one probably likes the idea of having them. There could be various causes behind dark circles such as allergies, rubbing your eyes, sun exposure, heredity, etc but the most common cause is fatigue and not getting a good quality and quantity of sleep.

The skin around the eye is delicate and is very thin compared to other body parts. Hence, it requires special care.

If you have developed dark circles then nothing to worry about. There are tons of natural remedies to get rid of them pretty quickly and easily.

1. Almond Oil

Almond oil balances the skin’s water levels and keeps it hydrated, thus reduces dark circles caused due to dehydrated skin. Vitamins K present in almond oil supports a protein that regulates the growth of news cells. 

You can use the oil in various ways according to your convenience to get results.

1. Wash your face with warm water and pat the skin dry. Now massage a few drops of almond oil around the eyes. Leave the oil overnight and rinse your face in the morning. 

2. You can also mix 5-7 drops of almond oil with 1 teaspoon of raw honey and massage the mixture around your eyes. Let it stay for 45 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. Both honey and almond oil have moisturising and lightening effect.

3. Mix powdered milk and almond oil in equal quantities to form a paste. Apply this paste around eyes for 20 minutes before washing it off with cold water.

4. Mix almond oil with other natural ingredients like avocado, lemon, chamomile oil, rose oil, turmeric, aloe vera, vitamin E oil, castor oil, etc. and apply it on dark circles to get rid of the problem.

2. Potato

Potato juice contains vitamins A and C and is a strong natural bleaching agent that lightens the skin when used regularly. You can use potato in slice, juice, or pureed form.

1. Store a potato in refrigerator and take it out when chilled. Cut two slices and place them on your eyes for about 20 – 25 minutes. Rinse your face with cold water.

2. Instead of using slices simply apply fresh raw potato juice for 20 minutes and then wash with cold water.

3. You can also chill some freshly grated potato and wrap it in cheesecloth. Place the cloth over your eyes to cover dark circles. Remove and rinse your eyes with cold water after 20 minutes.

4. You can also add 1 teaspoon of raw honey and 2 teaspoons of olive oil to a grated potato and blend the three to a smooth paste. Apply this paste for about 30 minutes and wash the eyes with warm water.

5. Blend 1 chopped potato, 4 tablespoons each of fresh lemon juice and water. Refrigerate the mix for a few minutes. Now, soak 2 clean cotton balls in this mix and place the balls over your eyes for 20 minutes and rinse with cold water after removing the cotton balls.

6. You can also mix potato with other natural ingredients like apple sauce, almond oil, tomato juice, honey, yogurt, etc. and apply under eyes areas to get rid of the dark circles. 

3. Cucumber

Cucumber is an astringent which lightens skin and has cooling properties. It has various antioxidants such as vitexin, isoscoparin, orientin, and cucurbitacins that make the skin soft, and smooth.

Cucumber can also be used in various ways.

1. Refrigerate cucumber slices and place them over your eyes when chilled Let the slices stay for 10 – 15 minutes and then rinse your eyes with water.

2. You can also mix fresh cucumber juice and lemon juice in equal quantities. Dip a cotton ball in this mix and apply it on dark circles for 15 – 20 minutes and wash your eyes with water.

3. Extract fresh cucumber juice and refrigerate it for a few minutes. Dip a cotton ball in the chilled juice for a minute. Then dab the cotton ball under the eyes and wait for about 15 – 20 minutes for the skin to absorb the juice. Wash with normal water after removing the cotton ball.

4. Rose Water

It acts as an astringent and has anti-inflammatory and cooling property. It is also rich in many essential vitamins and minerals that rejuvenate the skin around eyes.

The different ways in which you can use rose water are:

1. Soak a cotton bowl in organic rosewater and place this cotton ball under the eye area. Keep it for 20 minutes and rinse your face with cold water.

2. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of cold milk with 1 teaspoon of rosewater and dip a cotton ball in this mixture. Keep the soaked cotton ball under the eye and let it stay for 20 minutes. Remove the cotton balls and rinse your face with cold water.

3. Mix 1/2 tablespoons of sandalwood powder and rosewater to form a smooth paste. Apply this paste on the under-eye skin and let it stay for 20 minutes. Wash off the area with cold water.

4. You can also mix other natural ingredients like glycerin, almond oil, cucumber puree, aloe vera, lemon juice, etc. in rosewater and apply it on dark circles to get rid of them.

5. You can also use crushed rose petals instead of rose water.

5. Tomato

Tomato is a natural bleaching agent that helps to lighten the skin. The antioxidant compound lycopene present in tomato minimises the dark pigmentation under the eyes. 

1. Combine 1 teaspoon of fresh tomato juice and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice in a bowl. Apply this mixture under the eye using a cotton ball. Leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse it with water.

2. Blend a chopped tomato and few mint leaves. Now add 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and a pinch of salt in it. Drink it immediately. Drinking it daily will provide relief from dark circles.

3. Blend 5 mint leaves and mix with some tomato puree and cucumber juice from a small cucumber to make a paste. Apply this paste on the dark circles and wash with normal water after 15 minutes.

4. You can also simply place tomato slices on the dark circles and massage gently for 2 – 3 minutes. Let the juice stay for a few minutes and wash it with cold water.

5. You can also mix other natural ingredients like mint leaves paste, aloe vera juice, potato juice, honey, yogurt, pineapple juice, turmeric, etc. in tomato juice and apply them on under eye dark circles.

6. Coffee

Caffeine has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. Coffee is also rich in antioxidants that help fight sun damage. 

Some of the best ways of using coffee to get rid of dark circles are:

1. Add a pinch of black pepper and a ¼ teaspoon of coconut oil in 1 teaspoon of freshly grounded coffee. Now make a smooth paste using water. Apply it under the eye for 5 – 10 minutes. Wash it off using water (do not let the paste enter your eye). 

2. Mix 1 tablespoon of ground coffee beans, 1 teaspoon each of aloe vera and vitamin E oil in a bowl. Apply the paste on the affected area for 15 – 20 minutes and wash it off with cold water. 

3. Mix 1 tablespoon of freshly grounded coffee with 1 teaspoon of honey and water and apply the paste on your under eyes. Wash after 10 minutes.

4. Mix 2 teaspoons of coffee grounds in egg white and apply it under the eyes like a mask. Wash it off after 10 minutes. 

5. Mix 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds with 3 tablespoons of yogurt and apply it under your eyes and massage gently. Wash it off after 15 – 20 minutes. 

6. Brew a cup of coffee using coffee grounds and separate the coffee grounds with a spoon and refrigerate the grounds for a few minutes. Apply the chilled grounds under your eyes and massage gently for a couple of minutes. Let it stay for 20 minutes and then wash it off.

7. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice has excellent bleaching and lightening properties.  The best ways to use lemon juice are:

1. Apply lemon juice directly to the affected area for 15 minutes and wash it off with normal or cold water. 

2. You can also mix lemon juice with potato juice, cucumber juice or tomato juice in equal quantities and apply it for 15 minutes under your eye.

3. Blend ½ cup fresh mint leaves and add 3-4 drops of lemon juice apply this paste on the dark circles using a cotton ball and leave it for 20 minutes. Wash it off using water.

4. Mix 1 tablespoon of each coconut water, lemon juice, and fresh cream. Now add 2-3 teaspoons of grated cucumber to it and 3 teaspoons of china clay. Apply the paste on the dark circles and leave for 20 minutes.

5. Mix 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and ½ teaspoon raw honey and apply it on the dark circles. Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse using cold water.

6. Whip 1 egg and add a ½ teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply it on the dark circles using a cotton ball and place the cotton ball over your eye. Allow it to stay for 20 minutes.

8. Apple Cider Vinegar

It has excellent skin lightening property that helps lighten dark circles and spots on the skin. The best ways of using it to remove dark circles are:

1. Mix equal quantities of apple cider vinegar and water in a bowl. Apply this mix on the affected area and massage it gently for a few minutes. Rinse off with water after a few minutes. You can also add 1 teaspoon of honey to this mixture.

2. Mix 1 tablespoon each of onion juice and apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Apply this mixture directly to the affected area and let it stay for 30 minutes. Rinse it off with normal water. 

3. Mix 1/4 teaspoon each of apple cider vinegar and fresh lemon juice in a bowl and apply this mixture overnight and rinse it off with water in the morning.

9. Baking Soda

It has a great exfoliating property and improves the production of collagen to get rid of the spots or scars on the skin. It also has skin lightening and bleaching property. There are various ways to use baking soda to reduce dark circles.

1. Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda and water to make a paste. Massage it gently for 3 minutes and leave it on for a few minutes. Rinse it with lukewarm water followed by cold water.

2. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and some lemon juice to make a paste. When the mixture starts fizzing apply it on the affected area. Leave it for few minutes and rinse it off with water.
