The Face Shop Real Nature Sheet Masks Review

The Face Shop Real Nature Sheet Masks Review

This is the first time that I tried on a sheet mask and since I keep sharing a lot of skincare and beauty tips, it made sense to share this experience as well with my readers. First of all, I have been really fascinated by sheet masks, with so many celebrities using them I was curious to know what the hype is all about. So, I ordered a set of 5 sheet masks by The FaceShop from Amazon. I have dry skin so I went for the Hydration sheet masks combo, but they have a huge collection of masks for different skin problems made from a gazillion different ingredients.

The K-Beauty

Heard of the K-Beauty? K-Beauty or Korean beauty is popular not just in India but Worldwide. Koreans are masters at taking care of their skin and the world has started noticing. Don’t believe me? According to BBC, Korean women spend two times as much as American women on skincare and Korean men are not far behind, they spend more than men in any other country on skincare.

So, before you start wondering, let me tell you why am I giving you all this info? Because The FaceShop launched in 2003 is the third largest cosmetic and skin care manufacturing company in South Korea.

Skincare in Korea is like beating up your siblings in India, you start at a young age and gradually you learn the proper techniques!! Jokes apart, Korean kids learn techniques like exfoliating, moisturizing, and using SPF from the very beginning, so skincare is second nature to them. And, it’s not just for girls! Boys are as equally invested in their skincare routine from an early age.

So, after I got all this difficult to digest information, my expectations from these face masks were pretty high.

The Packaging

Let’s start with how the packaging looks. The masks come in a pretty packaging with the image of the main ingredient displayed on the pack. What’s impressive about the packaging is it has a matte effect overall and only the image of the ingredient has a glossy look. The envelope tears open easily at the top edge.

The Product

Each packet contains only one sheet mask. The mask is folded into almost a quarter circle and you have to unfold it before applying. Now, since the mask is completely drenched in serum and natural adhesives, unfolding could get a little tricky. It took me a minute to slowly unfold it completely.

The mask is almost translucent when it is wet and is made of cotton. The Face Shop claims to use its special natural squeeze-and-extraction technology, where whole natural plant extract is ground with water and the mask has natural adhesives that cling to the skin tightly to infuse it with the extracts. The mask has holes for your eyes, nostrils, and lips and the mask is big enough to fit all face shapes and sizes.

The Ingredients

The Good Ingredients

The Natural Extract: Each face mask has one main ingredient, for example, the lotus mask has natural lotus extract ground with water.

Glycerin: Glycerin has multiple benefits. It acts as a humectant i.e. it helps to minimize the water loss due to evaporation in the skin and helps in keeping the skin hydrated. Prevents drying and scaling of the skin. It is also an excellent toner and cleanser.

Sodium Hyaluronate: Also referred to as hyaluronic acid, it is also found naturally in the dermis of the skin and helps boost moisture content by preventing moisture loss from the skin’s deeper layers. All in all, sodium hyaluronate is a safe and effective moisturizer and can bind and hold onto significant amounts of water.

Hydrogenated Lecithin: This can also be found in egg yolks and the membranes of plant and animal cells and works as a water-binding agent. It also prevents water loss from the outer layer of the skin. Lecithin and Hydrogenated Lecithin enhance the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness.

Propanediol: Propanediol can soften and soothe the skin. Upon application, propanediol forms an occlusive film on the surface of the skin that aids in preventing water loss. Over time, this increases skin hydration by causing the buildup of water in the stratum corneum (the uppermost layer of skin).

Panthenol: Panthenol is a natural chemical compound closely related to vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid). Panthenol is only one metabolic step away from vitamin B5 and is relatively easily converted to the Vitamin in the body. Due to its chemical properties, panthenol is much better than vitamin B5 in penetrating the skin. It is also moisturizing and hydrating.

Shea Butter: Shea butter does more than moisturize, it delivers key anti-inflammatory and anti-aging components into the skin.

The Not So Good Ingredients

Dimethicone:  Any ingredient that ends with “cone” means that it is a silicone-based ingredient. Silicone may irritate sensitive skin.

Alcohol Denat: Alcohol is not good for cosmetics as it is a drying agent. But a well-formulated cosmetic product that contains alcohol will not dry your skin and in fact, it will help key ingredients penetrate the skin.

How To Use

The packet displays the directions to use on the backside. Wash your face and apply a toner. Now tear open the packet and unfold the mask. Apply this mask on your face and gently tap so that it adheres to your skin properly. Let it stay for 15-20 minutes (the packet says 10-15 minutes but the mask was still wet so I kept it for a good 20 minutes). Now remove the mask and pat in the remaining serum to absorb into the skin.

My Experience

The whole experience of applying the mask and keeping it was very relaxing. The mask is dripping in essence and gives a cooling sensation. You could even try keeping the packet in the refrigerator first to get a more soothing and cooling experience.

Now, coming to the results, before I applied the mask I had some dry patches on my face. But 20 minutes later my skin felt much more soft and supple. My skin felt a bit cleaner than before but nothing miraculous, if you are expecting to get instant results or change into some other woman by just applying this mask that is not going to happen.

But sure you will get a better hydrated and moisturized skin for at least 2-3 days. After that, the results are going to fade away. To keep the effect longer keep your face hydrated all the time by using a good moisturizer.

The Combo

The Hydration combo of 5 sheets mask had the following masks:

1. Aloe Mask: Aloe extract has soothing properties and offers softness and hydration to the skin.

2. Olive Oil: This again is good for moisturizing dry and rough skin.

3. Lotus: Provides smooth, radiant and moisturized skin. Lotus flower extract is known for its hydrating properties.

4. Bamboo: Rejuvenates skin and evens out the complexion.

5. Kelp: It is good for eliminating impurities and pollutants. It tones and hydrates the skin.

The Price

You can buy a single pack for Rs.100. I bought the combo of 5 from Amazon for Rs.250. Now, the masks are also available on Nykaa, Myntra, Jabong, etc but I would recommend buying from Amazon if you are planning to buy a combo, as it is giving the cheapest deal. On Nykaa even though you get 3 masks free on 5, that will cost you around Rs.500 i.e. 4 for Rs.250.

Bottomline

So, the final verdict according to me is these masks deserve at least an 8 on a scale of ten. If you have a party or an outing planned the next day and going to the salon is not an option these masks can come to the rescue.
