27 Life Saving Lipstick Hacks

I can’t imagine my day without a lipstick neither can most other women. There are always two or three lipsticks rolling at the bottom of my bag. No matter how effortless a good pout looks, the journey to get that perfectly coloured pout is difficult. With your lipstick smudging, fading, and stuck to your teeth, maintaining a flawless lip colour requires a lot of effort.

Lipstick-hacks-and-tips

These quick hacks will lessen your efforts by a tad bit and that perfect pout will not be a dream anymore.

1. Smooth Lipstick Application

Dry and flaky lips can make lipstick application a lot difficult. Just rub some lip balm or vaseline over your lips and use a clean mascara wand or a soft toothbrush to exfoliate your lips. Use the brush in circular motions to get rid of any flaky dry skin. Now use a tissue to wipe off the balm and apply your favorite lip colour to get a smooth finish.

2. Lipstick Stained Teeth

One simple lip colour can make your smile look vibrant but what if you have lipstick on your teeth, that same smile can now make you look hideous. Use this simple trick to never again have lipstick stains on your teeth. After applying your lipstick pout and put your index finger in your mouth such that your lips wrap around the finger. Now slowly pull the finger out. Any excess lipstick which could get on your teeth is now on your finger.

3. Use It As A Cream Blush

Ran out of blush? Don’t worry use your lipstick as a creamy blush. Dab some lipstick on your cheeks and rub with your fingers to get the blush effect.

4. Use Eyeshadow As A Lip Colour

If you have an old or broken eyeshadow lying around and you can’t think of anything to do with it. Just scrape out the eyeshadow in a small container and add some vaseline or coconut oil or lip balm whatever is available to make a brand new lip colour. Use a brush to apply this on your lips.

5. Get The Actual Colour On Pigmented Lips

If you have pigmented lips, you must have often struggled to get the original colour on your lips. The moment you apply the lipstick the colour seems to have changed magically. The natural colour of your lips can change how the lipstick appears after application, especially the nude ones. So, use a concealer or foundation on your lips before using the lipstick to let the original colour pop out.

6. Turn Any Lipstick Into A Long Lasting Matte

Mattes are trending right now but you don’t wanna buy the same colour in matte if you already have it. One simple trick can solve this dilemma. Apply any non-matte lipstick and keep a thin tissue paper on your lips, now use a thick fluffy brush to put some translucent powder (or use any other powder such as baby powder) on your lips over the tissue paper. Now, you not just have a matte lip colour but a long lasting one too!!

7. Reshape Your Lips

Do you have thin lips and want them to look plumper or want to shape them to look a bit thinner. Cover your lips with concealer or foundation and use a lip liner to shape your lips. If you want them to look plumper line outside your lips natural line or to make them thin, line inside. Now fill in with the lipstick.

8. Long Lasting Lipstick

Apply your lipstick and hold a tissue paper between your lips to blot away any excess oil or lipstick. Now again apply one more coat of the lipstick. This ensures that your lipstick lasts longer and it does not slip off from your lips.

9. Choosing the Right Nude

Choosing the perfect nude lipstick for your skin colour can save you from looking ghostly. If you have fair skin choose a nude with a pink undertone, for medium skin tone use the ones with orange undertones and for darker skin use darker nudes with brown undertones. Your nude lip shade should always be darker than your skin colour.

10. The Perfect Red Lips

Red lipstick can make you look sexy even without makeup. It’s the mecca of lipsticks. Fair skinned women should go for blue-based reds, if you have a medium skin tone go for orange based reds and for darker skin tones burgundy based dark reds are ideal.

11. Use Lip Liner The Right Way

This is one tip you will find everywhere on the internet, using a lip liner the right way can help your precious lipstick from slipping off your lips and making you look like Dracula. Use the lip liner to mark an “X” at the centre of your lips. Draw a line along your lips to get the perfect shape of your lips. Now, fill in the lipstick.

12. Fix Smudged Lipstick

If you accidentally smudged your lipstick or want to give your lipstick much sharper and clean edges, use a thin brush and some concealer to line the outside of your lips after applying lipstick. Blend the concealer using your fingers, do not rub it just gently tap it until it completely blends with your skin.

13. Fix a broken Lipstick

If you are aware of the basic ingredient used in lipsticks and lip balms, fixing them is no rocket science. Almost all lipsticks use paraffin (wax) as an ingredient which melts and solidifies quiet easily and quickly. So, just melt the broken end of the lipstick and fix it back to the base in the packaging. It will reattach within a minute.

14. Travel-Friendly Lipsticks

You don’t need to carry all your lipsticks while traveling, you can make your own travel-friendly easy to carry lipstick packaging. There are two ways to do this. You can cut off the lipstick bullets and store them in a container or you could just scrape a little piece from the top in a spoon melt it over a candle and store it in any small container. Use a brush to apply your mini lipsticks.

15. Protect Your Lipsticks In Summer

Store your lipsticks in the refrigerator to save them from melting in summers.

16. Make Your Lips Appear Larger

After applying one shade of lipstick over your entire lips, use a shade in the same colour family that's a lot lighter (or even a concealer if you really want a major effect) in the centre of your lips.

17. Remove Lipstick Stains

Spray some hairspray on a fabric (make sure the fabric is washable and not dry clean only) and dab off the stain.

18.Soften Your Lip Liner

19. Get a Nude Shade From Dark Lipsticks

Mix any dark-toned lipstick with some concealer using a brush to get a lighter nude lip colour without having to buy one.

20. Avoid Dry Lips With Matte

Although mattes look amazing on your lips sadly they are drying and applying matte lipsticks in winter could damage and dehydrate your lips. Apply a thin layer of lip balm before you apply any matte lipstick.

21. Use Highlighter To Get Fuller Lips

You could also use a lighter toned lipstick at the centre of your lips to get fuller lips as I already mentioned. If you don’t have one just dab some highlighter at the centre of both lips over the lipstick to get the bigger lip effect.

22. Lipstick Remover

Getting rid of your lipstick at the end of the day can get really tricky, especially if you used a dark or matte lipstick. Just grab some olive oil and massage over your lips and wipe off with a warm washcloth. Don’t forget to moisturise before going to bed.

23. Don’t Layer Matte Lipsticks

Layering to cover your faded lipstick seems natural. But don’t ever do this with matte lipsticks as layering matte lipsticks can dry your lips making them flaky and cracked. Instead, just remove it completely and then apply a fresh thin layer again. Sounds painfully time-consuming right?

24. Don’t Go Overboard With Lip Balm

Applying lip balm seems like a good idea to keep your lips soft but don’t overdo it especially before applying lipstick. This will make it difficult for the lipstick to adhere to the lips. Instead, apply a thin layer of lip balm.

25. Save Your Expensive Lipstick From Wasting

If your lipstick is near the end and there’s only a little bit left stuck in the base which you can’t use anymore, use a spatula to scoop out the remaining lipstick in a spoon. Heat it over a candle and mix some coconut oil. Pour it in a contact lens case and use it as a lip stain.

27. Non-Transferable Lipstick

Mix a few drops of food colouring in a peel-off mask or glue and apply it to your lips. Let it dry. Now peel it off to get your non-transferable lip colour.
