5 Easy DIY Lip Tints (At Home)

With summer on its full glory heavy makeup takes a backseat, especially during the day. You want to look fresh and natural and opting for lighter products makes sense. If dabbing on lipsticks is too much for you, try using a lip tint instead.

Lip tints or lip stains can give your lips a natural delicate color, which makes your lips look beautiful and hydrated at the same time. Its lighter than lipsticks, so you can easily glide this on anytime anywhere just like a lip balm.

Now, there are a number of lip stains available in the market but you don’t obviously want to spend on buying a range of colors. It doesn't makes sense, especially when you can make them at home in any color you desire and in no time.

These simple customizable DIY lip tints require just 2 or 3 ingredients and a few minutes to give you those naturally beautiful desirous lips.

1. The Berry Stain

You can choose different berries to get a range of colors from pinks, reds to purples.

  • Mash 4-5 berries in a bowl and extract the juice from them using a sieve.

  • Simply apply this juice over your lips and allow it to dry for a natural stain. You can also add a little bit of olive oil or Vaseline to get a glossy look.

  • To get a darker stain, add a touch of espresso powder.

2. The Beet Pigmented Stain

The Berry stain gives your lips just a hint of color, so if you have pigmented lips this might not be a great option. Beetroot can come to the rescue if you need to beautify pigmented lips and hide the pigmentation. Beetroot tint will give you a lovely dark tint.

  • Grate half a teaspoon of beeswax and melt it in a double boiler. If you don’t have a double boiler use a saucepan filled with water and keep the grated wax in a bowl inside the saucepan. Now heat the saucepan to melt the wax.

  • Add a teaspoon of olive oil to the melted beeswax. Switch off the stove immediately after adding olive oil.

  • Now mix required beetroot powder or mashed beetroot pulp to the mixture and stir well.

  • You can store this lip stain in a glass jar. Use it daily to get soft pink lips.

3. Blush Tint

This one is a simple lip tint which requires only two ingredients. The best part about this recipe is you can make this lip tint in so many colors. So this is the holy grail of quick DIY lip tints.

  • You just need some vaseline, blush, and something to stir. That’s it!!

  • The more blush colors you have the more lip tints you can make.

  • Just add a spoonful of vaseline in a bowl and scrape out some blush powder into the bowl.

  • Mix the two ingredients with a stirrer and store in a small jar.

  • Use this lip tint to get pretty lips with just a hint of color.

  • You can also use eyeshadow instead of blush to get a wider variety of lip tints.

4. Crayon Lip Gloss

Now, before you start freaking out by the thought of using crayons to make a lip gloss, let me tell you something interesting. Almost all lip glosses and lipsticks available commercially contain paraffin which is the main ingredient in crayons as well and is a non-toxic food grade pigment. So, it’s completely safe to use!!!

Here’s what you need to do-

  • Remove the paper covering the crayon and chop it into small pieces. Use any crayon color according to the tint you want to get.

  • Now place the crayon along with 2 teaspoons of coconut oil in a small bowl.

  • Place this bowl in a saucepan containing water. The water should not enter the bowl.

  • Heat the saucepan on medium flame. When the crayon starts melting stir it with the oil.

  • Remove the bowl from heat when you get a consistent liquid.

  • Now pour it into a jar and freeze for 2 minutes.

  • Your lip tint is ready.

5. Lipstick To Lipstain

This one is another pretty simple 2 ingredient lip stain. If you have any old lipstick lying around that you don’t use anymore turn it into a brand new lip tint. You can even add other natural ingredients to make it nourishing.

  • Start with a lipstick of your choice cut out a small piece from the top of the stick.

  • Now put the lipstick along with 2 teaspoons of coconut milk in a bowl.

  • Put the bowl in a saucepan filled with water. Heat the saucepan on medium flame and stir to mix both the ingredients together.

  • Take out the bowl and pour the liquid in a jar.

  • Freeze it for a few minutes before using it.

A quick hack if you are running out of time, just dip your finger in some rose water and rub some blush or eye shadow over it. Apply this instant lip stain to give your lips a touch of your favorite color. But make sure the blush or eyeshadow is a good quality branded one.

Remember these tips to use the DIY stains-

  • Always store your lip stain in the refrigerator.

  • Keep checking it for fungal growth.

  • You can even use them to stain your cheeks also. Just dab some using your fingers and rub it to blend and give your cheeks a blushed pink glow.
