Sugar Tic Tac Toe Nail Lacquer Pro- 022 Silver Screen Review

Sugar Tic Tac Toe Nail Lacquer Pro- 022 Silver Screen Review

A few days back I ordered a nail paint by Sugar. Now, I have been seeing a lot of sugar products online on Amazon, Nykaa, etc. and even in malls on many outlets. Just a few months back I haven’t even heard of this brand and now it’s everywhere. This Mumbai based brand is growing fast and is being loved by its customers because of the quality of products.

So, I thought of trying it and to be on the safe side I just ordered one nail paint. I opted for the shade silver screen which is a metallic silver. I love metallic nail paints as long as someone else applies them but somehow I was worried that it won’t look good on my hands. But with a heavy heart, I finally ordered this one.

The Formula

Before I start telling you how the polish looked let’s start with something that I loved about this nail the moment I saw the package- The nail polish is nine-free.

If you have read my article on the DIY manicure you must be aware that I recommended using three free nail paint. The three free nail paint is free from formaldehyde, toluene, or dibutyl phthalate (DBP).

But this one is nine free which is even better. It’s free from:

  • Formaldehyde

  • DBP

  • Toluene

  • Parabens

  • Camphor

  • Xylene

  • Formaldehyde Resin

  • Ethyl Tosylamide

  • Acetone

Why a nine free formula is better?

1. Toluene

The strong scent that comes when you open a nail polish bottle is commonly due to toluene. Toluene is a toxic liquid used as a solvent to give a smooth finish across the nail. Toluene has been listed as a known human respiratory toxicant by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Pregnant women should not be exposed to toluene for long periods as it may cause birth defects and developmental issues in children.

2. DBP

DBP is commonly used as a solvent that prevents nail polishes from becoming brittle. This chemical is also linked to birth defects, delays in child development, and cancer.

3. Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a nail hardening agent and disinfectant for nail care tools. Low levels of formaldehyde can cause eyes, nose, throat, and skin irritation. Formaldehyde is directly related to causing cancer, such as Leukemia.

4. Formaldehyde Resin

Formaldehyde Resin is known to cause skin allergies such as dermatitis.

5. Camphor

Camphor leaves that yellow stain on your nails after removing the polish. This chemical acts as a barrier on your nails and deprives your nails of natural nutrients.

6. Ethyl Tosylamide

It is a plasticizer and film former that helps polish dry in minutes. It is also known for preventing polish from chipping and wearing off too quickly. This chemical has been banned in the continent of Europe due to concerns over antibiotic resistance.

7. Xylene

This chemical damages the central nervous system and cause headaches, skin, eye, nose, and throat irritations, memory problems, gastrointestinal discomfort, and can potentially affect the kidney and liver.

8. Parabens

When applied to the skin, they are absorbed by the body and enter the bloodstream. Parabens are suspected of interfering with hormone function.

9. Acetone

Acetone is a very powerful solvent but it's also very harsh because it removes a lot of natural oils from your skin.

Price

I got a shade from the Tic Tac Toe Pro collection which is priced at Rs.299.

However, the Tic Tac Toe Classic collection has all shades priced Rs.199 and the Tic Tac Toe Matte is worth Rs.249.

Packaging

The nail paint came in a quirky little box and the bottle is a transparent square glass bottle with a black cap and the Sugar logo and the collection name on it. The application brush is a flattened flat top brush, which covers the whole nail bed in two swipes, but it becomes difficult to get through the curves with the flat tip. But still, it’s great for quick application. The bottle contains 10ml of nail polish which is mentioned on both the box and the bottle.

The Shade

So, as I have already told you the shade I bought is a silver screen which is a metallic silver. The color is great for a party or a function but you have to get on at least two coats to get the full color pay off. Even though I was not expecting it to look good it turned out to be amazing. Although I was a little disappointed as I expected it to have a little more shine and mirror effect, nevertheless it still looked good.

My Recommendation

I would definitely recommend this nail paint, especially for parties and if you like to go bold and try something new.

Even though Sugar is an Indian brand which just started out in 2012, it’s nail paint was no less than any other good international (medium priced) brand in terms of quality. So, it gets a 100% heads up from my side.
